Women in Jazz: Lucy-Anne Daniels
Jazz vocalist Lucy-Anne Daniels takes the spotlight at this showcase of up-and-coming talent, with pianist Kezia Abuoma supporting.
Daniels’ performances are full of emotion and vivid storytelling, as she blends her jazz- and gospel-infused vocals with pedal effects and live looping to create a sound that’s truly her own.
Aged just 23, she’s already appeared at the Proms and leading jazz clubs in Paris, New York and London. She was the winner of the 2025 Tina May Young Jazz Musician Award, with judges praising her ‘rhythmic freedom and inventiveness… and irresistible sense of sheer enjoyment’.
Joining Daniels on stage are guests Soweto Kinch and Poppy Daniels. Acclaimed jazz saxophonist and MC, Kinch has been manifesting ambitious new jazz concepts for over two decades. A master saxophonist and incisive MC, Kinch fuses the kindred disciplines of jazz and hip-hop into a sonic dialect all his own.
London born and raised, Poppy Daniels has performed with the likes of Blue Lab Beats, China Moses, Daniel Casimir and many more. Poppy, who uses influences of jazz, fusion, hip-hop and Latin to inform her music, stands out as one of London’s most exciting up-and-coming trumpet voices.
Supporting is Kezia Abuoma, the pianist and composer, joined tonight by her trio to play her own music, along with fresh interpretations of jazz classics. Abuoma is an alumna of Tomorrow’s Warriors and although she’s still completing her studies at Trinity Laban, she has already performed her original music at venues including the Jazz Cafe and Ronnie Scott’s.
The organisation Women in Jazz elevates women performers by hosting events and workshops. Its community is made up of 10,500 people, including singer-songwriters, producers, instrumentalists and composers.
Women in Jazz has produced radio shows for Sky TV, Jazz FM and British Airways, run panel discussions at Love Supreme Festival, programmed live events at venues including Ronnie Scott’s, and directed and produced a YouTube show, Uncovered, which spotlights the most exciting female talent from across the UK.
