Tune-Yards

+ LuxJury

Tune in to an energetic melding of genres with front-of-mind lyrics and layered vocals.

Tune-Yards, the music project of Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner, is known for its vibrant fusion of indie pop, Afrobeat and experimental loops.

Emerging with the 2009 album BiRd-BrAiNs, recorded on a handheld recorder, Tune-Yards gained widespread acclaim with w h o k i l l (2011), which featured the breakout hit ‘Bizness’ and won The Village Voice Pazz and Jop critics’ poll that year. Their music is characterised by layered vocals, polyrhythmic beats and socially conscious lyrics, which tackle themes of race, privilege and politics.

Opening the evening is LuxJury. Naming George Michael, Angel Olsen and the soundtrack to Vampyros Lesbos as formative influences, LuxJury fuse elements of pop, rock and soul-baring, self-effacing lyricism to create their sound.
