A dance battle celebrating the music, the lyrics and the artists that shaped the culture of these decades. Come to dance, watch, support or simply experience the vibe and celebrate this era with connection, equality and joy at the heart.
Ghetto Funk Collective: It’s on the One, 4pm
Ghetto Funk Collective are back with their new performance It’s on the One, choreographed by Ruben Chi and Roché Apinsa, who together founded the collective.
‘It’s on the one’ is a well-known expression in funk music that emphasises the first beat of the bar. The phrase was coined by James Brown, one of the pioneers of funk music, to keep his band tight and disciplined during performances and recordings.
DJs, 5pm – 8.30pm
A line-up of fabulous DJs soundtrack the early evening.
Post-show party: Jams & Gems by The Ruggeds, 8.30pm – 10.30pm
Close out the day with a post show party hosted by DJs Glade Marie and Handson Family. They’re joined by Let It Happen: three sisters, Norah, Rosa and Yarah, whose love of funk and hip-hop dance is impossible not to feel. Formed out of a shared passion for performing, the trio bring warmth, skill and pure joy to the stage.
