The Only Tallest Trees on Earth
Three performers drift between the comic and the unsettling, the everyday and the philosophical in Ivan Vyrypaev’s intriguing play, performed in Russian.
The Only Tallest Trees on Earth stages a deliberately simple conversation between three performers to unravel some of the knottiest questions of modern life. Those we all encounter in our lives but can’t always articulate. Questions about a world filled with contradictions, faith and the search for meaning in life.
Careening from one perspective to another, from the absurd to the troubling, the performance invites you to consider its big questions from every angle and to dive deep into the writer’s fascinating universe.
Be swept into the whirling eddy of the renowned playwright’s artful and playful language. As in much of Vyrypaev’s work, the structure, rhythms and meanings of language are the play’s beating heart.
The Only Tallest Trees on Earth is a collaboration between Chulpan Khamatova, Maria Mashkova and Vasily Zorky, with Ivan Vyrypaev, whose works have been translated into more than 30 languages and staged by dozens of theatres worldwide.
A joint project by Teal House Foundation and Bird&Carrot Productions.
