Skate Up Space
Rollerskaters: assemble on the Riverside Terrace for a day of workshops, live music and DJs guiding us to move together to the beat on wheels.
Come and explore how our bodies can skate responsively to music and take up space across the dance floor, soundtracked by some of the very best music to skate to.
Take part in skating movement workshops, including Floetry – a class that takes you through the different elements of music and how it connects with the way we skate – with Sourgrapism, and Zaira Tary’s Latin Roller Dance workshop, which teaches you how to incorporate body movement and expression into roller skating.
Skating is all about letting loose, being creative and having fun, but there are some basics before we get to that stage. Skate Tingz (Amir) takes us through some dance skate fundamentals, such as pivots, building skills to work towards dance skating and jam skating.
Then, enjoy freeskating and skate jams throughout the day and evening with live music and DJ sets to get us grooving into the night.

Need to know
Please bring your own rollerskates; skates are not available to hire. This event takes place outside on concrete, so outdoor wheels are recommended. Rollerskaters are advised to wear protective gear.
Rollerskates must be removed prior to entering the Royal Festival Hall or other buildings on site.
No food or drinks are allowed inside the rink.
The workshops have been designed for roller skaters with some experience on skates, and not for complete beginners. All free skating, jam skating and workshops require skaters to balance and move safely on skates.
Rollerskaters must skate in the same direction during the freeskate sessions. Please watch your speed, be mindful of others around you and skate safely.
There is limited capacity in the rink, so turn up early to avoid disappointment.
Non-skaters are welcome to watch the rink and enjoy DJs, live music and dancing throughout the day.
