Scottish Ensemble Performs Philip Glass

Join this dynamic group for a celebration of today’s music for strings at its most thrilling and varied, including the meditative Third Symphony by Philip Glass.

The eclectic Scottish Ensemble pushes the boat out into the waters of contemporary music for strings, with a kaleidoscopically varied programme.

The concert concludes with Philip Glass’ Symphony No.3, written for 19 string players.

Glass said of the work that it ‘fell naturally into a four-movement form and even given the nature of the ensemble and solo writing, seems to have the structure of a true symphony, though in the core it is the symphony for strings.’
