MimeLondon: FOOD
Bring an appetite – this is no ordinary feast. Circus artist Michael Zandl’s amusing and bizarre world of consumption is a hypnotic spectacle.
What begins as a simple act of eating gradually transforms into a maniacal, almost mechanical ritual. We watch as the boundaries between desire and necessity blur, giving rise to something grotesque, surprising and disturbingly hypnotic.
Through acrobatics and object manipulation, witty circus performers create a vivid physical language that questions our collective consumption habits – habits subtly shaped by desires that may not be entirely our own.
Zandl is a circus artist who has been a resident artist with Korzo theatre, The Hague, since 2020. Zandl’s artistic approach combines absurdity and abstraction, fuelled by a passion for unusual scenarios and subtle humour. FOOD is his directorial debut.
Presented in collaboration with MimeLondon.
