Kronos Quartet
San Francisco’s Kronos Quartet light up the stage with their ever-fresh take on the string quartet, bringing a boundary-pushing mastery honed over 50 years.
The three-time Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet have been prolific pioneers in reimagining the string quartet since the ensemble’s founding in 1973 – transforming the form into something living and breathing, reflective of the people and issues of our time.
Kronos Quartet have performed thousands of concerts worldwide, released more than 70 recordings and collaborated with many of the world’s most accomplished composers and performers across many genres.
They’ve received more than 40 awards, including the Polar Music, Avery Fisher and Edison Klassiek Oeuvre prizes. In 2024, the album Pieces of Africa was inducted into the National Recording Registry at the US Library of Congress. Most recently, Kronos Quartet has been selected as the Doomsday Clock Artist in Residence for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.
Through its non-profit organisation, Kronos Performing Arts Association (KPAA), Kronos has commissioned more than 1,100 works and arrangements for quartet. In its most ambitious commissioning effort to date, KPAA has recently completed Kronos Fifty for the Future, an initiative commissioning and freely distributing 50 new works for string quartet.
