Kinetika Bloco Summer Showcase: Joy In Motion
Join us for a joyful, energetic spectacle of young people dancing and playing steel pans, brass, woodwind and drums in this celebration of music and dance.
As part of Dance Your Way Home festival, this annual showcase – the culmination of a ten-day summer school – sees Kinetika Bloco present Joy In Motion.
Music and dance are inseparable. They move together – the pulse and the expression, the call and the response.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the rhythm of the clave, a beat that connects bodies across time, space and history. The Kinetika Bloco Summer School is inspired by the powerful journey of the clave rhythm, from its African origins through the Transatlantic Slave Trade and across the globe.
It is a rhythm that moves us all, across continents, generations and struggles, and leads us to fill dance floors on the road in London and beyond. It reminds us that no matter where we are in the world, we carry our histories with us, and we can always find our way home through dance.
Bringing together the passion and talent of 150 young people, we celebrate the joy that music and dance bring into our lives and reclaim the power of movement as a means of connection, healing and belonging.
Kinetika Bloco’s mission is to engage young people from South London in long-term creative activity via music and dance, advancing their education, skills, and capacity for learning and leadership. Kinetika Bloco is a Creative Learning Partner at Southbank Centre.
