Corinthian Orchestra: Passion & Transcendence
This afternoon’s powerful performance brims with drama, lyricism and transcendence, with conductor Michael Seal and violinist Charlie Lovell-Jones.
Featuring an eclectic programme of Strauss’ Death and Transfiguration – a profound tone poem depicting the final moments and spiritual transformation of an artist – music that moves from turbulent struggle to radiant resolution.
Rising star violinist Charlie Lovell-Jones takes centre stage for Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, a work of dazzling virtuosity and Nordic soul.
From its icy opening to fiery finale, the concerto showcases both technical brilliance and heartfelt expression, making it a favourite among audiences and performers alike.
We conclude with Elgar’s Symphony No.1: a towering achievement of Edwardian orchestral writing.
At once noble and searching, Elgar’s First Symphony moves between sweeping grandeur and intimate reflection, capturing the spirit of a nation on the cusp of modernity.
This richly evocative programme journeys through struggle, beauty and triumph, performed with passion and precision by one of London’s leading non-professional orchestras.
