Aga Khan Music Programme
Enjoy a free, live takeover celebrating a vibrant array of music in the final weekend of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Enjoy an afternoon of free performances featuring students and graduates of the Aga Khan Music schools in Cairo and Kyrgyzstan, and talented artists from the global Ismaili community. Three showcases culminate in a joint performance celebrating the transformative power of music education.
Schedule
12 noon – 1pm: Global Hand Percussion Workshop
Join a joyous celebration of rhythm without borders. Masters of hand percussion Abbos Kosimov (Uzbekistan, doira frame drum), Ayman Mabrouk (Tunisia, riqq frame drum and darbuka goblet drum) and Andrea Piccioni (Italy, tamburello frame drum) bring together traditions from across Europe, North Africa and Central Asia. This drop-in workshop is open to everyone. Some instruments are provided, or you’re welcome to bring your own handheld percussion.
1.30pm – 2.30pm: Ismaili Artists Showcase: UK & Beyond
Specially invited young musicians from the global Ismaili community, or Jamat, perform music that reflects their diverse musical backgrounds and artistic journeys.
3pm – 4.30pm: Rhythms of Afro-Eurasia
Featuring Abbos Kosimov (doira frame drum), Ayman Mabrouk (riqq frame drum and darbuka goblet drum), Andrea Piccioni (tamburello frame drum) and Karim Ziad (drums). Witness masters of percussion from around the globe performing together, weaving the rhythms of Central Asia, North Africa, the Mediterranean and beyond into a spellbinding, cross-continental cacophony full of virtuosity and groove. As the show goes on, they are joined by members of the local community, opening out to create an energy-filled jam.
This concert is part of the EFG London Jazz Festival and Aga Khan Music Awards 2025 collaboration, showcasing excellence in music from across the globe.
