Playlist: Yoshitomo Nara, London 2025

During the summer of 2025 the Hayward Gallery presented the largest European retrospective to date of the celebrated artist, Yoshitomo Nara.

Drawings, paintings, ceramics, sculptures and installations all featured in this exhibition of more than 150 of the artist’s works. And among the latter was My Drawing Room 2008, Bedroom Included, a wooden structural ‘house’ that recreates and represents the artist’s studio space.

As you walk around the outside of this structure and peer through its windows at the drawings and sketches scattered inside, you’ll also be able to hear music emanating from within. Chosen by the artist, this accompanying playlist features 42 of his favourite rock and folk tracks, all recorded between 1964 and 1974. 

As it is unlikely (but not inconceivable) that you’ll be in the company of My Drawing Room 2008, Bedroom Included for the full duration of Nara’s 130 minute accompanying playlist, we share it with you here to enjoy in your own time, or as you move around the rest of his exhibition.
