Beyond this, Bates is perhaps best known for The Everyday Sexism Project, which she established in 2012.

Documenting examples of sexism from around the world through first-hand entries submitted directly to the site, or by email or tweet, Bates had hoped to gather around 100 women’s stories through The Everyday Sexism Project. But its impact was remarkable, gaining support and traction throughout the world, to the point where the site now contains a collection of more than 100,000 women’s daily experiences of gender inequality.

Back in 2013, when the project was still in its relevant infancy, Bates joined us at the Southbank Centre for the Women of the World (WOW) festival, and specifically for WOW Bites, a series of small talks around inspiring ideas. Here Bates introduced the Everyday Sexism Project, and explained how and why she had established it.
