‘He is constantly questioning what the boundaries of photography are,’ explained Hayward Gallery Director Ralph Rugoff as he introduced the first major UK retrospective of Gursky’s work, and the first exhibition to be shown at Hayward Gallery following its two-year refurbishment.

In this video Rugoff walks you through the exhibition, discussing Gursky’s unique approach to image-making and his large-scale spectacular works which often seem transcend the boundaries between painting and photography.

‘Gursky has been an audacious chronicler of the global economy, and documented the epic sights that global capitalism has produced’

Ralph Rugoff, Director of Hayward Gallery

Andreas Gursky was shown at the Hayward Gallery from January to April 2018.
