The artist explains what led her to leave behind what she describes as her ‘human dramas’ to make this huge cinematic portrait of a 30-metre-high spruce tree.
Horizontal – Vaakasuora was featured in the exhibition Among the Trees which was at the Hayward Gallery from 4 March to 31 October 2020.
‘I started to question the anthropocentrism of my medium, the moving image. And then I thought, I’d like to make a portrait of a tree.’
