Artist Advisory Collective
A supported programme connecting artists, nurturing practice and shaping creative health youth projects
In 2026 we celebrate 75 years of the Southbank Centre. At the heart of this celebration will be young people, their experiences and their voices.
Drawing on this moment, and our long term commitment to young people, particularly in Lambeth and Southwark, we’re launching a new Arts & wellbeing programme for young people aged 11- 25 that supports mental health through free creative activity; a space to build community, learn new skills and explore and experience the joy of creativity.
Supporting in delivering and shaping this programme will be our new Arts & wellbeing Artist Advisory Collective.
This project is generously supported by The Baring Foundation.
What is our Artist Advisory Collective?
It’s a group of five artist-practitioners whose practice centres and responds to supporting young people, and their mental health and wellbeing. These artists will be coming together as a collective to help us determine how our new programme can create space for young people to experience the transformative power of creativity and the arts, and thrive within it.

Why create a new Arts & wellbeing programme for young people?
We recognise that young people from Global Ethnic Majority backgrounds in London experience significant disparities in mental health care, marked by disproportionately high detention rates, more frequent emergency interventions, extended waiting times, and reduced access to culturally appropriate early intervention services compared to their white peers.
We acknowledge the need for creative health projects that challenge systemic racism, address health inequalities and respond to young people’s lived experiences of power, privilege and discrimination.
This programme will embed an intersectional, anti-oppressive approach and align with disability-justice practices and perspectives, and that’s why we’re working with artists whose practices are shaped and driven by these principles as part of our Artist Advisory Collective.
